Jon “Maddog” Hall
Jon \”Maddog\” Hall is Executive Director of Linux International. The nickname was given by his students at Hartford State Technical College, where he was Head of the Department of Computation Science. Hall himself states that the nickname \”comes from a time in which I had little control over my temper\”. Jon has worked with informatics since 1969, he worked for Western Electric Corporation, Aetna Life and Casualty, Bell Laboratories, Digital Equipment Corporation, VA Linux Systems, and SGI. Currently, he is CTO and ambassador of Koolu.
His interest in Linux appeared at the time in which he was working for Digital and was fundamental in obtaining equipment and resources for Linus Torvalds to be able to complete his first port, a version of Linux for Digital’s Alpha platform. It was at this time that Hall, who lives in New Hampshire, started his state’s Linux Users Group. Hall’s car license plates are UNIX. Jon Hall is also a member of councils and boards of a number of businesses and non-governmental organizations, including the USENIX Association.
He is recognized in the developers’ community and a respected figure in the Open Source Software movement. In the UK Linux and Open Source Awards 2006, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his services to the Open Source Code community. Hall has a Masters degree in Computer Sciences by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1977) and a Bachelor in Business and Engineering by Drexel University (1973). Maddog is na exceptional speaker, who infects his audience through his poersonal charism and analogies and examples that enthrall the audience.
Frank Karlitschek
Frank Karlitschek is a long time contributor to Open Source Software. He has worked in KDE e.V. He managed the engineering team for over 10 years, and worked as head of the unit and administrative director in different companies. He started a number of initiatives in Open Source Software, like Open-PC and the network openDesktop.org. In 2010, he stared project ownCloud and has been leading the community of this project since then. In 2011, he founded ownCloud Inc. together with Markus Rex and Holger Dyroff, in offering comercial services centered around the OwnCloud
Jody Garnett
Jody Garnett is a charter member of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation and chair of the incubation committee responsible assisting new projects. Jody is an enthusiastic supporter of Open Source Spatial: “GIS is at the frontier of computer science with data volumes expanding the limit of what we can do. Open source developers thrive with a unique combination of public data, hands-on projects, and grassroots enthusiasm to make a real visual difference.
Active open source Java developer on the steering committee for the most famous opensource gis java projects(GeoTools; GeoServer and uDig). Taking the roll of geospatial consultant a bit too literally Jody has presented workshops and training courses in every continent (except Antarctica). Presently Jody Garnett is Geospatial Software Architect of LISAsoft in Sydney Australia.
Ron Minnich
Ron Minnich is Google Software Engineer. He invented LinuxBIOS in 1999, and ran the Project in its first 10 years. He recently went back to working on Coreboot such as for Google’s Chromebook project. Ron is also very active in community Plan 9, Computationin Cluster and HighPerformance.

Alessandro Silva
Post-graduate in Information Technologies Applied to Education by NCE/UFRJ and Graduate in Computer Sciences with Emphasis on Systems Analysis by Universidade Estácio de Sá. He is LPIC-1, LPIC-2, LPIC-3, Novell Certified Linux Administrator, Data Center Technical Specialist, Zabbix Certified Specialist and Zabbix for Large Enviroments certified. He participated in the migration to Open Source Software of the Federal Government, of the Brazilian Army, and coordinated qualification for 60 thousand people in open technologies in Duque de Caxias/RJ. He is the creator of FSLDC, LinuxinRio and recently of the AgendaLivre.org. He was a member of the team of Administrators of Linux Systems at HostGator Brasil and is currently Linux Analyst at the Center of Excellence at Todo! Social Communicator with formal and informal qualification in engineering, anthropology, education and over 28 years of experience in technologies and computation. Firm promoter of open source technologies and free knowledge, of collaborative work and FLOSS in general, he has participated in a number of national and international projects.

Anahuac de Paula Gil
Founding member of G/LUG-PB –Gnu/Linux user group of the state of Paraíba, activist and developer of open source software since 1996, including LESP – Linux Easy Server Project, LESP-CEL, Pagode, Jegue and KyaPanel, he is also a consultant on open source technologies for TV Globo, F13 Tecnologia, City Hall of João Pessoa among others, having dedicated his career to the deployment and implementation of free solutions for businesses, society and governments.

Ângelo Andelnyr Sampaio Alves
Technician in Electrotechnics graduated by Colégio Elpídio Evaristo dos Santos in 1984. He worked for twelve years as Instructor in the Centro de Formação Profissional Silva Freire (RFFSA/SENAI). As Plant and Substation operation specialist technician, he worked for two years in Angra II Plant (ELETROBRAS ELETRONUCLEAR), for six years he was part of the Real Time Intervention Team for the Elecrical System at São José Station (FURNAS CENTRAIS ELÉTRICAS) and for five years acted in the that Station Supervisory Team. He is currently allocated to the Division of Supervision, Control and Automation of Plants and Substations and participates in the development and implementation of Operation support tools.

Benício Ribeiro
Bachelor in Systems Analysis by UNEB (Universidade do Estado da Bahia – Campus II) in 2007, he acts in web application development since 2004. He is currently developing in PHP and is a champion of Ruby on Rails and Python. Caroline de Souza Vieira
Caroline de Souza Vieira, better known as Carol Souza, graduate in Systems Analysis, administrator of Linux networks, promoter of the use of Open Source Software and user of OpenSuse. Cesar Brod
Cesar Brod has acted in the area of informatics since 1982. His professional qualification process occurred largely in the US, Canada and France. He began working with Linux in 1993 and, between 1997 and 2011 delivered, through BrodTec, services in consultancy, project management and creation of business models based on open source software. Constant presence in events related to Open Source Software in Brasil and abroad, between August 2006 and February 2009, Cesar was responsible for project management in the de Interoperability e Open Source Innovation Centers, backed by Microsoft, at UFRGS (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul) and Unicamp (Universidade Estadual de Campinas). He is a creator and founder of Solis, Free Solutions Cooperative and member of project \”Linux around the World\”, by Jon \”maddog\” Hall, an international initiative that strives to raise awareness and disseminate the use of Open Source Software. Currently Cesar is General Coordinator of Technological Innovations of the Department of Logistics and Information Technology of the Ministry of Budget, Planning and Management.
Cícero Moraes
Cícero Moraes is a 3D self-taught artist and animator. He learned his profession on the internet and is one of the great enthusiasts of Blender in the country. He has written dozens or on-line and printed articles, read in Brazil and the world.
Winner of the TVCA Advertising and Video Award in 2006, he was among the finalists of the Cannes Young Lions contest, promoted by YouTube in 2009. He has spoken in a number of informatics events, such as Latinoware (2009 and 2010), XXI Semac (SP), SolivreX (PR), Filsol (GO), II Ermac (MT) e a BlenderPRO (MG e CE).

Christiano Anderson
He started his career in 1996, he worked for the main web access providers in Brazil like Terra and Zip.net, having had the privilege of tracking the .com bubble in Brazil. Passionate about the web, he studies new trends in the development of innovative solutions in his company, Trianguli. He is currently a collaborator of project MongoDB being an evangelist for NoSQL. He is a member of the Associação Python Brasil, Associação Open Source Software and former developer in Project GNU.
Daniel Lara
Daniel Lara is a systems and GNU/Linux network administrator, he has worked with infrastructure in the RedeHost company, worked in the Office Tecnologia company as Backup Manager with experience in network administration. He currently works as IT consultant, is a student in the area of network technology and user of GNU/Linux. Volunteer in the Open Source Software User Group of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the TcheLinux. A little while ago he joined the Moderator Team of Viva o Linux.
Daniel Yucra
Professor Daniel Yucra, is Master in Computation Sciences with 16 years experience in teaching at University graduation and graduate levels. Gnu/Linux user since 1996, he developed the Peruvian GNU/Linux (Tumix) distribution. Founder of Open Source Software Community SomosLibres.org (2002), coordinator of project Open Source Software in Quechua (Runasimipi.org). Creator of the Intesol education model, in addition to study curricula based exclusively on open source software technologies for teaching computer sciences.
He is a member of the main council of the Free Software Foundation América Latina (www.fsfla.org), and currently is coordinator of Latinux (latinux.pe) for Peru, where he undertakes activities in preparation and certification in free technologies.
He has actively participated, in the last 10 years, in national and international events in Open Source Software (Brazil, Venezuela, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic).
David Emmerich Jourdain
Acts as consultant in the area of Open Source Software. He has participated in a number of projects since 1998 and his qualification is totally in the area of Computer Sciences. He is a founding member of TDF (The Document Foundation), organization responsible for maintenance and continuity of the LibreOffice suite. Member of communities in German, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian of LibreOffice, as well as of TDF’s global lists (in English). He was responsible for the research Project that resulted in FAMELIX, Linux with interface very close to proprietary environments to facilitate the process of migration for users used to these environments, now known as BRLix (www.brlix.com). Since 2007, he has developed customized versions of Linux for manufacturers and integrators of hardware wishing to adapt to programs of the Federal Government, such as the one known as “Computers for Everyone”.

Professor of the Department of Informatics and Statistics of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina since 1988. He works in the areas of Open Source Software and public software, software industry, e-government, C&T policies for the IT sector, interaction university-company, internationalization and localization of software.

Luciano Lourenço da Silva
Graphic Artist, member of the APBA (Associação Paulista de Belas Artes) since 1989 where I took illustration, artistic drawing and, later, design until 2000. Given my passion for design and in particular for Vector and Vexel Art, I developed my best work in the vectorial image creation tool Inkscape. With Inkscape, in addition to having studied in depth its story and tracked its development since the first versions, I did work that is referenced in sites in the whole world.
Today, I am part of the communities Inkscape Brasil, Ogimp free source code, I am a graphic designer of Hardware.com.br and of other companies to which I deliver graphic and web designer services working on free tools for their development. Responsible for the Templates of the Latinoware website in its latest editions using Drupal and WordPress. Creator of Mascots of PSL-Trinacional, PSL-Itaipu and also mascot Tux-Chinela.
Luís Lopes
Graduate in Biological Sciences by Universidade Católica do Salvador and specialist in Geo-technologies. The first contact with geo-processing occurred when he joined the Amazon Protection System (Sistema de Proteção da Amazônia – SIPAM), in 2007, as Analyst of Natural Resources where he remained until late 2011. He is currently Specialist in Geo-processing of the Geomatics Advisory Service of the Institute of the Environment and Territorial Ordering of the State of Amapá (IMAP). Editor and creator of the Geotecnologias Luís Lopes (geoLuisLopes) blog, in activity since 2008, he received a number of national prizes, amomng these: TOP30 in category “Technology” (promoted by TopBlog in 2010) and finalist in the MundoGEO#Connect 2011 Award in category “Best Geo-technology Blog”, being among the 5 best in Brazil: http://geoluislopes.blogspot.com/
Marcelo André Soares
Marcelo André Soares is GNU/Linux certified LP1–C3, Zimbra and RHCE, accumulating in his professional life 17 years of experience in IT, of which 12 dedicated exclusively to open source software. Enthusiast of this world, he has correction patches and new functionalities published in three international scope projects, has six software published and maintained as open source software. He has presented papers in congresses and colleges about High Level Availability, Clusterizing, Versioning of Software, Linux in Corporate Environments, Database Tuning, PostgreSQL, Zimbra, among other topics. In the professional area he has over 13 years of experience in teaching technologies, having worked as programmer, IT manager and head developer of network security systems, the latter having done all the development based on open source software. He has broad experience in the network area, programming in languages shell, C, C++, PHP, Perl, Python and Java. He has given academic extension courses in Linux desktop, Linux basic, Linux advanced, PHP programming, advanced PHP programming, MySQL database, PostgreSQL database, web development using open source software, software versioning, and preparatory for a different certification tests in GNU/Linux.
Marcio Galli
Marcio is the creator of the TelaSocial project, with contribution in creating solutions based on web standards that result in participative experiences in communication in public and semi-public sapces. Marcio Galli has been involved with web technologies since ‘96 and has contributed to companies like Netscape, Yahoo! and Mozilla.
Nick Vidal
Nick Vidal, Computation Engineer by UFRGS (Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul), author of ISS/IM (Instant Syndicating Standards – http://iss.im), an open standard is sharing information through social networks. He was the main organizer of DrupalCamp Foz 2011, held together with Latinoware, where he hosted Dries Buytaert – founder of Drupal – in his first visit to Brazil. He launched the Libre Magazine, with over 8000 copies distributed throughout Latin America.
Ole Peter Smith
Born in Denmark, in 1964, Smith is máster in Sciences of Engineering by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). In 1996, he completed in the same university a PhD in Mathematics (Structural Optimization), then started a career as Systems Administrator in the same institution. In 2002, he came to Brazil, where he began working with Sysadmin in the City Hall of Iporá. In 2002 also, he began a career as professor, initially at UEG UnU Iporá (Mathematics), then at FAI in the area of Informatics. Not much later, he took on the coordination of informatics in both institutions. Starting in 2009, adjunct professor at the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics, Universidade Federal de Goiás. Programer since 1990 (C/C++, LISP, Perl, PHP and others), he carried out a number of software projects. Active in Open Source Software communities since 2008, current president and founding member of SLOG (Open Source Software Oeste Goiano) and member PSL-GO.
Pablo Rubianes
Pablo Rubianes is web programer and developer in Montevideo, Uruguay. After 5 years in the Ubuntu community, he became a member of Ubuntu, participant of the Council of Members Ubuntu. He is also a councilor of the Ubuntu Uruguay Community, and organizer of UbuConLA.
Paulo Fernando Lamellas
Graduate in Military Sciences by Military Academy of Agulhas Negras and masters in Military Sciences by the Officer Enhancement School. Has specialization in Open Source Software, acts in the area of Computationa Sciences, with emphasis on computer networks and Open Source Software. Paulo Roberto Alves de Oliveira, better known by his virtual nickname *Kretcheu*, is a traditional member of the Open Source Software community and champion of free knowledge, accessible to everyone. Rafael Soto
Rafael Soto is Project manager of the Federal Data Processing Service acting in the Superintendence in Support to Technology in the area of SOA and Corporate Service Bussing (ESB). In his professional activities, he worked in a number of IT projects based on Open Source Software in the areas of consulting, Systems Analysis, project development and management. Member of the Brazilian chapter of OSGEO and idealizer of the first demoiselle spatial initiative, he participates as collaborator in projects in the area of Open Source Software, java and geo-processing such as in the geo-tools library and free map server – geo-server.
Ramón Ramón Sánchez
Ramón Ramón is a ICT professional very well-known in the world of Free Knowledge in Spain and Latin America. He is Business Development Manager for Latin America at Ándago Ingeniería, expert in Free Software and Public Administration, International Consultant in Information Technology, former Vice-president of Hispalinux and founder of the Iniciativa Focus.
He has been responsible for different technology services and plans in public administration. He has led teams in the execution of e-government and digital citizenship events and projects, and habitually drafts information and documents, participates in events and is member of different international committees. He is advisor to a number of projects and countries, like the ICT Master Plan of the government of Paraguay and/or the Productive Cluster specializing in Open Source and Free Technologies of Entre Ríos promoted by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation of Argentina.
His presence in the Network as dynamic driver and disclosure agent is broad and he has participated in organizing events of national and international levels. Familiar with the development of e-Government in Spain and of Free Software at international level, he has carried out a number of activities of technical nature like the migration plans for the different municipalities of Andalucía.

Mini-Bio: researcher of the Tércio Pacitti Computational Research and Applications Institute NCE/UFRJ where he is currently working in the implementation of the Open Source Technology Development and Research Lab – LAPTEL. He has militated in the Latin American open source software movement and is an active member in a number of different projects since the 90s.

Sílvio Palmieri
Silvio Palmieri has worked with informatics for over 25 years, of which 13 involved with Open Source Software as a whole. Specialist in Open Source Software for the public sector having worked in different municipal and state administrations, delivered training, executed implementations and gave lectures in practically every state of Brazil and in many countries of Latin America. Called crazy or xiite by many, at times his defense of SL or his tattoo of Tux on his arm, and currently called Capitan Palmieri by his friends, he liked and incorporated the codename in his every day work with Open Source Software. Member openSUSE, Administrator-Founder of Xoop’s Paraná, member of Comunidade Expresso Livre, member of PSL-Trinacional, he has already been considered one of the main active champions of Open Source Software in Paraná. Responsible for organizing a number of events on FS around the country. He currently works for the City Hall of Piraí do Sul – Paraná, as Secretary of Information Technology.
Tiago Hillebrandt
Information-Technology Technician at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, he acts as a member of the Council of the Ubuntu Brazil Community (www.ubuntu-br.org). Graduate in Data Processing – UFPR and post-graduated in Modern Systems Analysis – PUC PR. He worked for the Army, SERPRO, City Hall of Curitiba, PUC PR, ABNT and Celepar. Co-author of Law 15.742 on ODF in Paraná. He collaborated with the creation of the Bill of Law 3070 ODF In the House of Representatives. He collaborated in the drafting of the OGF Brasília Protocol. Under his coordination the Brazilian standard NBR ISO 26300 was established. He is IT advisor to the board of CELEPAR, coordinator of the Gubro-PR, Member of the Open-Source Software Movement of Paraná, and member of ABNT, Open Source Software and ODF Activist. He has more than 36 years of experience in IT. He received an international award on ODF, ODF Alliance Award.
